Born in Safi - a city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, Monsif is the fruit of a marriage between a mother of a west African roots and a Moroccan father. It is these mixed origins that had shaped his artist sensitivity. As a child, he discovered Gnawa music (a mixture of black African and Morocco rhythms).
In his teenage years, all his attention had been directed to the Reggae, a music by which he was extremely charmed. The Jamaican music and its masters ( Bob Marley, Burning Spear..) as well as the mixings made by Alpha Blondy seduced him, and pushed him to opt not only for singing Reggae music, but also composing it.
After having formed a Reggae band in the middle of the 90th and presented his first concerts, Monsif started a career of a solo artist. In 1999, he launched his very first album entitled: BARAKA Meanwhile, he continued his performances on the stage. In 2001, he performed series of successful concerts among which there was the unforgettable NEW MORNING. In
August 2004, Monsif was back to perform for the first time in his country Morocco, exactly in Casablanca. That concert was a real first success attended by more than 25,000 spectators, but was not a last. Later in 2004, Monsif created in his city Safi, the ADAF association which undertook the organization of the first edition of the annual Trans-Atlantic Festival of Doukkal-Abda in July 2005. During this festival, he performed in his original city Safi, in a concert that attracted more than 50,000 life music fan. His latest album EXODE is a harmonious mixture of rhythms concocted in Ariwa studios in London. with Mad Professor.
